A-40 The Neurocognitive and Behavioral Profile of an Adolescent with in-Utero Exposure to Alcohol

Abstract Objective Prenatal alcohol exposure can result in altered brain development that has detrimental effects on children and put them at increased risk for cognitive impairment, sensorimotor deficits, attention problems, behavioral issues, social–emotional difficulties. Further, adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders associated in-utero to require targeted academic psychosocial support as they transition into adulthood which emphasizes the need neuropsychological assessment. Method This case study presents profile of a 17-year-old male 11th grade who was exposed diagnosed fetal young child by his primary care physician. Results Neuropsychological testing revealed broad range impairments included deficits intellectual functioning (mild disability), adaptive functioning, language, achievement, attention, executive memory, fine/visuomotor skills, functioning. Conclusions Recommendations were made modify special education goals targeting functional communication post-high school planning. interventions given referring psychotherapist aid treatment Information vocational counseling financial individuals developmental disabilities provided patient’s guardian well. illustrates long-lasting neurocognitive assessment during adolescence order reduce secondary issues (e.g., lack mental health support, unemployment, hardship) occur these move adulthood.
